I have been responsible for the development of EOLE software for 12 years. During 21 years at Principia, I became an expert of numerical Fluid Mechanics for different industrial applications, in particular for naval and offshore activities: Hydrodynamic performance of hull and appendages, Liquid motions in ballast and storage tanks, Impacts loads and slamming, Design and optimisation anti-roll devices, numerical investigations on viscous damping with free surface for naval and offshore structures, Vortex Induced Vibrations.
I am involved in Marine Renewable Energy projects (OTEC and OWEC).

In charge of training course in engineering schools ENSTA, ISITV

Marine Hydrodynamics, Ocean Engineering,

Christian Berhault
PhD in Ocean Engineering (Ecole Centrale de Nantes).
14th years (IFP) of R&D and software development in the field of offshore floating structures for oil & gas industry (Diodore, DeepLines): wave loads, sea-keeping, mooring and risers behaviours (slow drift, ringing/whipping, slamming, sloshing, viscous roll and drift damping, vortex induced vibrations and motions). Since 1990 in Principia, with application of the acquired expertise in naval engineering (civil and defence): ship dynamic stability and stabilization systems, ships and submarines sea-keeping. Expertise provided on the major deep offshore projects concerning design of oil production systems, marine operations. Support for design of renewable marine energy systems. Large experience in model testing : towing tank and offshore basin.

In charge of training course in engineering schools : ENSPM, ECN

Subsea Umbilicals Risers and Flowlines

Jean-Michel Heurtier
Graduated from Ecole Centrale de Paris (ECP) in Physics
I initially spent seven years at Institut Français du Pétrole (IFP) as responsible for the development of DEEPLINES (Finite Element model dedicated to the design of slender structures like production or drilling risers, mooring lines or umbilical). I joined PRINCIPIA in 2001 as expert in dynamic analysis under extreme conditions, Fatigue Life evaluation under wave/wind/current loadings as well as Vortex Induced Vibrations.
I am deeply involved in the modelling of a beam finite element with large displacements, contact with friction, non-linear behaviour laws and couplings between a floating unit and its mooring lines or risers.

Seakeeping and Mooring

Alain Ledoux
Graduated from NTNU Trondheim as a civil-ingenior in hydrodynamics
Graduated from Ecole Centrale Des Arts et Manufactures (ECP).

Working for PRINCIPIA for 10 years, I have been involved in activities connected to Hydrodynamics and the development of DIODORE. software.
Area of experience spans roll damping, coupling between sloshing and sea keeping, hydro-elasticity and slamming as well as hydro-structure coupling.
Recently, my research projects have focused on hydrodynamics in relation to the LNG industry i.e. mooring in shallow water or offloading side-by-side.

In charge of training course in engineering schools ECM and ISITV

Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD)
PhD in Fluid Mechanics (Institut de Mécanique des Fluides de Marseille)
CFD Expert at PRINCIPIA since 1996 and actual responsible of the EOLE code, my expertise deals with the modelling and the validation of physical and numerical models allowing to simulate complex phenomena such like, multi-phases flows, free surface evolution, cavitation, turbulence, wave modelling and wave-breaking, fluid-structure (rigid) coupling, fluid-thermic coupling, thermal transfer with condensation, jet break-up,...
My expertise, as the one gained by the CFD team, is associated with the development of the EOLE which is used in most of our projects.

Subsea Umbilicals Risers and Flowlines

Cédric Le Cunff
PhD in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
Graduated from Ecole Centrale de Lyon in Mechanical Engineering

After six years at Institut Français du Pétrole, I joined Principia in 2004 in Houston office (USA). For the past eleven years, I have been working on Vortex-Induced Vibrations (VIV), fatigue of risers and mooring lines . I have also been involved in numerous projects for the offshore industry to evaluate field design or solve specific problems. Those experiences are used to enhance the finite elements code DEEPLINES. As part of the development team, I worked for instance on the VIV and fatigue modules, as well as line/floater coupled analysis in frequency domain.

Nicolas Couty
PhD in Fast dynamics
My expertise, acquired in about 10 years, concerns fluid-structure interactions, especially with deformable solids. My expertise is focused on fluid-structure effects in transient phenomena, and fluid-structure impacts. This includes sloshing and slamming impacts, drops of structures on liquids, underwater explosions, blast, where compressible effects in fluids.
These transient phenomena induce subsequent vibrations of structures in presence of liquids that are also analyzed.
The main software used is LS-DYNA.
